Settling in at home
Hi! I'm Kristen - Kate's sister. I came down on Sunday to try to be as helpful as possible. If you know Stephen and Kate, you know that they had everything organized down to the last detail and probably didn't need much "help." But there's no way I could have stayed away so maybe I'm here for emotional support and sister love!
We got Kate home yesterday. The first day home involved a lot of naps and trying to figure out her new routine - how to keep pain under control, where she is most comfortable, what foods she feels like eating, etc.
As with most surgeries, the worst part of recovery is 2-3 days after the procedure. The nerve block they gave her is wearing off and she isn't getting the strong pain meds the hospital was able to give. Kate is uncomfortable and Stephen's main job right now is to keep her on a schedule for pain medication so she can be as pain free as possible. Unfortunately, I think it will get worse before it gets better. But Kate is strong and determined to keep a positive attitude. She is an easy patient to take care of!
She is reading all of your messages and feeling all the love and prayers coming her way. She's not up for much visiting yet but I know that will change as she starts to feel better.
I know I speak for Kate when I say that all of your love, messages and support mean so much right now as she recovers. Thank you from all of us!
